The City of Winnipeg issued a boil water advisory on January 27, 2015. Within minutes it was spreading like wildfire on social media. That’s nothing new. But what was new for the city of Winnipeg was having a socially-savvy mayor in command who chose to harness the power of social media to spread the word. Mayor Brian Bowman took to Twitter and YouTube to post information and updates in an unprecedented manner to keep residents informed and assured.
